Yet Another Example of Budget Disjoint

Here is yet another example of disjoint between voting for the FY '09 Republican budget and cuts to needed services. Sen. Linda Gray (R-Phoenix) donated 19 cell phones to the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence, but voted for the budget that eliminated state aid to domestic violence shelters. The Republican budget included $787,500 in cuts to the Domestic Violence Shelter Fund. This is the fund that assists in providing shelter for adults and children to escape from dangerous situations. It is immediately after leaving an abusive partner when a safe haven is most needed.

As you may recall from a previous post, Republicans do not know exactly what they voted for in their own budget.

"We don't have the staff to evaluate what just went out the door," said President Bob Burns (R-9) on Feb. 9 in reference to the FY '09 budget the majority of Republicans rushed to pass to meet a self-fabricated deadline.
